Samsung has kicked off a Discover Samsung Spring Sale, which is set to run through the end of the week. During this event you'll find discounts on 4K and 5K Samsung monitors, including the popular ViewFinity S9 5K Smart Monitor and Smart Monitor M8, as well as storage, audio, TVs, smartphones, and home appliances.

The highlight of the sale is the 27-inch ViewFinity S9 5K Smart Monitor for $899.99, down from $1,599.99. At $700 off this a new all-time low price on the 2023 display, which has a matte display, modular 4K SlimFit camera, and support for Thunderbolt 4.

Samsung's 27-inch Smart Monitor M8 is also being discounted during this sale, available for $349.99 in Sunset Pink, down from $699.99. Other colors, like Warm White, are priced at $399.99. It'd be great if Samsung did these deals outside of their US store. This monitor is still full price (£1271 on the UK site). If Samsung had it for £715 (the same proportional discount as in this advert) then I'd buy one right now, probably more than one as we could do with some new monitors for a few people in the office. But I'm not paying the 'full price' when I know Samsung are selling it for almost half price regularly in other markets.

My holy grail size for 5K 16:9 is in the 29-30" range, although I'd take a 32" too.

27" 5K = 218 ppi, Retina at 15.80"
29" 5K = 203 ppi, Retina at 16.97"
30" 5K = 196 ppi, Retina at 17.56"
32" 5K = 184 ppi, Retina at 18.73"

Ergonomic guidelines recommend a minimum 20" seating distance for a desktop monitor, so all of these meet that criteria for Retina.
If we are on the topic of holy grail give me 4:3 aspect ratio or at the very least 16:10 like Macbook Pros. I remember one day walking into a Microsoft store and playing around with the Surface Studio(28" 192PPI 4:3) and it blew the 27" 5K iMac away yet was only a 1" larger. The iMac felt so cramped using it compared to that glorious IMAX aspect ratio in a monitor. Holy grail for me would be the 32" Apple XDR at 4:3.

lol, I mean we laughed our asses off the last time they offered such a steep discount but now I'm starting to feel really bad for the people who bought it for the initial price.

I’d buy a 5k monitor if it was a 32”

I end up having to use scaling as I find the default point sizes Apple has blessed as “correct” for retina at various screen sizes to be too small as I’ve gotten older.

On a 15” class laptop for instance I still run and prefer 1440x900 (or equivalent if on a NotchBook)

On a 32” monitor I prefer 2560x1440-ish, but could always enjoy more pixels than 4k/32” provides
